Youth is not a time of life - it is a state of mind. It is not a matter of ripe cheeks, red lips, and supple knees. It is a freshness of the deep springs of life. Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years. People grow old only by deserting their ideals. Years wrinkle the skin but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.

Philosophy and practice Workshop        Sunday, July 25th,    1-3 p.m.
Yoga is the practice of the poses, but it has so much more to offer us. At it’s core, Yoga is a philosophical and spiritual method for relating to ourselves, others, and the world with authenticity, awareness, love, and joy. The wisdom of yoga is echoed throughout many of the world’s traditions of spiritual inquiry, revealing a linkage of cultures at the center of our collective human heart.
In this workshop, Becky will explore with you, via movement, meditation, and sharing, the spiritual and practical applications of Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga as taught in theYoga Sutras, helping you unravel the profound concepts of these ancient yet timeless teachings for the soul.

Just Chant!     A Fun, Interactive Workshop with Karen Johns,  RYT,      Sunday, May 2,  6:30 - 8:00pm

In yoga circles, most of us have heard of or even participated in a “kirtan”, or call & response chanting concert. But while we might be drawn to it, what’s it really all about? Join Karen in an informal circle learning about the origins of kirtan and getting to the nitty gritty of this incredibly powerful practice.  NO TALENT or SANSKRIT KNOWLEDGE is required! The words will be provided with translations, and taught before each chant we experience together. What to bring? A curious mind, an open heart and maybe even your voice.

Karen has been chanting for several years, and singing and playing harmonium frequently in classes and workshops at Shine Yoga Center in Cincinnati. She recently released her debut CD, Saprema (which means “with love” in Sanskrit.) The cd is a powerful collection of love songs to the Divine with the simple instrumentation of voice, harmonium and tabla. To sample her music, visit www.karenjohnschants.com and follow the cdbaby link. Karen will have the CDs with her available for purchase at the workshop.

Yoga for Balancing Moods,  Sunday, March 28, 1:00-3:30p.m.

Physiologically, yoga practice is a method to balance ourselves by compressing and massaging the muscles and glands via movement. Muscles, especially of the neck, spine, and hips harbor tension in order to “be ready” to move at a moment’s notice. Yoga eases them to relaxation with deep breathing, long comfortable stretches and unhabitual, interesting movement, all beneficial for overall muscular conditioning. The functioning of the adrenal glands is vitally important; if they are depleted by stress, they do not do their job optimally. The functioning of the thyroid and parathyroid is also of vital importance; low thyroid function can bring about fatigue, low blood pressure, weight retention, and depression/anxiety.
Psychologically, yoga offers us a way to balance our approach/outlook to life, to “cleanze our filters of perception”, by providing an opportunity to observe and experience ourselves in a state of meditative calm (much easier when the brain’s chemistry has shifted more toward “balance” with the poses and movement). We begin to understand and relate to stress is a “reactive state of mind”, temporary like the spring weather or the melting flow of a river. We begin to realize that we constantly find ourselves caught up in “reaction story line”, an over-identification with our thoughts and perceptions. Yoga teaches us to simply “witness” the mental and emotional state of the moment, and relate to our stress reaction with more calm and “space”, both mental and emotional.

This workshop is open to students of all levels. Please pre-register for this event by contacting us at 609-9642 or  email info@innerdanceyoga.com.

Restorative Yoga Workshop, Sunday, March 7, 1:00-3:30p.m.

Relaxation is one of the best tools for increasing energy, and a restorative yoga practice can help counteract some of the energy-depleting effects of the breakneck speed in which we lead our lives. The more stress we experience, the more its effects are exacerbated within us. When stress becomes chronic, the body forgets how to relax and our immune system becomes compromised.

Restorative yoga not only relieves stress, but it strengthens our immune system and generates peace of mind. We will explore supported postures using a plethora of props and enhance the level of relaxation with body rolling.

This workshop is open to students of all levels. Please bring a blanket, a water bottle, and an eyebag if you have one. Cost: $30 Space is limited, please pre-register for this event by contacting us at 609-9642 or  email info@innerdanceyoga.com.
